I got a little crafty yesterday after seeing a crayon clock made by Jane on the Facebook Art Teacher's page.  She was nice enough to post the back of hers which  showed how to make this. The clock was from Walmart, $3 You need about 4 boxes of 24 crayons Hot glue and a cardboard circle to glue the crayons too. This is an inexpensive craft!  I used a cereal box to made a bigger cardboard shelf to glue the crayons on to.  Jane duck taped hers, I just hot glued mine. Jane also arranged her crayons in Rainbow order. I just wanted mine to be random. (kinda like me) Make your clock unique!  A few of my crayons melted from the hot glue so watch out! Here is the back I will hang it up next week in our new art space. Hope you are getting super excited to start the school year! 

I have been working on cleaning up my computer and trying some new websites this week. Have you ever used Canva ? I uploaded the app on my ipad a while ago but didn't use it. I began using it this week to create banners for twitter and a few wedding ideas for our upcoming daughter's wedding.  I also began following them on twitter after I noticed our technology department was using it to design posts for chats.  Well, I  switched over from the ipad to the computer site.  It is much more user friendly and I created the above banner free today.  I had a few problems with the sizing. I used the preset size and only had half of my header with my banner.  I did a little searching and found out the Blogger heading is 1060 x 288 pixels . I then noticed on the Canva site in the right corner and noticed it lets you create size you want.  You make it and save it as an image.  In the Blogger layout page, you click on the header t...

If you watch the news then you know we have had record rain here in North Texas for the month of May. The gardens are growing in and outside of the classroom, but enough is enough! My fifth graders just finished these amazing one day pinch pots.... They used Sax underglaze with a clear coat to finish last week.  It is hard to get the clay to dry out and find a non stormy day to run the kiln this month! We have had 3 inches of rain on Saturday.... not to mention the amount falling right now.  my little garden is lush... but  it needs some sunlight to ripen the tomatoes.  Third Grade is working on their last project.... We looked at Rufino Tamayo's   paintings and drew repeated slices with oil pastels. 12 x 18 white sulfite paper Sax tempera cakes love these...I know I pinned this idea from Pinterest but can't find the pin.. I went way outside my comfort level and dressed up as a story book character on our Red Ribbon Dress up day last Friday. I posted my picture on Twitter and Facebook Art Teacher's group. I even went as far as sending a picture to Cassie Stephens . Soooo....... I need you to vote for me. I love my fall lessons, but we are running behind after having a student teacher the first nine weeks. These 4th graders should be ready to wash the soap outline off the black paper next week to complete their sugar skull lesson. The soap lines will reveal black outlines and the oil pastel stays put.  Here is a previous display! Yesterday was Story Book Day on Halloween. I decided to dress as my favorite artist PIGASSO It was a blast and almost all the kids Got IT.  We finished up the day with a few magic Pasta Pots after reading Strega Nona. This artist was dressed as Elsa! Metalic FX crayons make everyone happy! Three weeks and then a week off.....oh btw my Kiln is now fixed! Yippie

My principal awarded me the Star Parking spot this week. She said I am a Technology Pioneer.  At first I thought she meant I was old... I am one of the older teachers on my campus.  But she said, "No like the Pioneer Woman ! " (Yes, I have all her cookbooks and record her show every Saturday.. so I felt flattered with that comparison. My husband wishes I generated her income!) But this technology shouldn't be so hard...  I am learning Google. Google Docs and Google Drive and sharing Google Docs.   In addition, I haven't been blogging much since I have set up a Google Site for my classroom.  I need more time with it to see if it is worth the time,  and to find out if anyone is looking at it.  I tried to add a web counter and that isn't working .... yet.  tinyurl.com/skaggsart (but I did figure out tiny url thing.) I have been on overload this month and not posted at all. I have been on too many sites! I have a twitter account for my class  Skaggs Art I went to Google Camp and learned about Google Docs and Classroom sites.  I began to learn how to set up my  school class site  Art@ Skaggs plus I belong to the Facebook Art Group and a TAEA group here in Texas.  I wonder if all the sharing is really looked at.... but I try. I also have a student teacher. Thank goodness he is a good one from my home school area!  If you have ever had a student teacher you know what I mean. You have to be on your A game and I didn't really feel I was there.  Yes, it was repetitious to make name tents and sketchbooks this week,  but it works to get our acts together.  As a team leader I feel so stretched at the beginning of the year.
